Here we go, the very first
Killerrobots.com Robot of the Week. Trying to decide which robot to feature posed quite a problem
for Skwirl and I. We needed a grand robot that represented all the features one wanted in a
killer robot. In order to narrow down the choices we came up with a pair of criteria that we
would hold the nominees to:
1) Popularity
2) Bodycount
A staple of Japanese monster
movies, Mechagodzilla combines the proper amounts of popularity with mass destruction that makes
the staff at Killerrobots sing out in praise. Would anybody dare argue that the Godzilla movies
featuring Mechagodzilla weren't the most violent and destructive of them all? Who could forget
Mechagodzilla flying rings around Godzilla as he shot his eye lasers at the green brute, ripping
open his jugular. It brings a tear to our eyes. So, we salute you Mechagodzilla. Here's to mass
destruction and Killerrobots.com's glorious future.

In the original Godzilla movies,
Mechagodzilla was created by an alien race of beings from the Third Planet of the Black Hole. The
aliens built Mechagodzilla in Godzilla's likeness so that he could conquer the Earth. After
throttling Anguirus and King Caesar, Mechagodzilla put the smack down on the original, only to be
defeated in the end by Godzilla's electromagnetism power. Mechagodzilla returned for a second try
in "Terror of Mechagodzilla," but lost yet again (Is it just me or does Godzilla never lose?).
In the late 80s/early 90s, Toho
rejuvenated Godzilla by redesigning all the old monsters and bring them back. This time, Mechagodzilla
was not an alien creation, but was instead built by G-Force, an international anti-Godzilla organization.
Using technology from the 23rd century Mechaking Ghidorah, Mechagodzilla was a site to behold. He
still got his ass handed to him though.
